It has been one of the transfer sagas of recent weeks and Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara has added some intrigue to proceedings with a Tweet that suggests he may be staying at the Nou Camp and will decline the advances of Manchester United.
To recap, due to a clause in Thiago’s contract, that specified the amount of minutes played over the course of the season, the Spain Under-21 star can currently leave Barcelona for 18 million euros (plus VAT).
Considering Thiago’s regular release clause is set at 90 million euros, the midfielder, desperate for regular playing time, would be a real coup for any other side in Europe.
Manchester United are believed to have made a strong offer for Thiago last week, which included a significant pay rise and 5-year deal at Old Trafford.
However, momentum appears to have stalled somewhat and there were suggestions yesterday that Thiago had come to a new agreement with Barcelona.
So much for Thiago Alcantara being David Moyes’ first major signing as Manchester United manager!
