Official: Juan Mata completes £37.1m Manchester United move

Chelsea to Manchester United in a record transfer deal for the reigning Premier League champions.
The Spain midfielder had a medical on Saturday and has signed a contract, understood to run until summer 2018.
Mata, 25, is likely to make his debut at home against Cardiff on Tuesday.

"The time has come for a new challenge," he said. "I am excited at the chance I have to be part of the next phase in the club's history."
He added: "Chelsea is a top club and I have many friends there but you cannot turn down the chance to join Manchester United. I look forward to helping the manager and the team be successful in the coming years."
Mata, capped 32 times by Spain, will be unveiled at a news conference on Monday at 13:30 GMT.
He becomes manager David Moyes's second high-profile signing, following the arrival in September of Everton's Marouane Fellaini for £27.5m.
The deal also eclipses United's previous record signing - Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham in 2008 - by £6.35m.
Mata, who joined Chelsea from Valencia for £23.5m in August 2011, has been Chelsea's player of the year in both full seasons he was at Stamford Bridge.
He scored 32 goals for the Blues and made more than 130 appearances but has failed to command a regular starting place under Jose Mourinho, who returned to Chelsea last summer for a second spell as manager.
"Juan is one of the finest playmakers in the game today and it's a real pleasure to have secured his signature," said Moyes.

"He's been instrumental in Chelsea's recent success, with a notable 28 assists and 32 goals in his last two Premier League seasons.
"I have been impressed with the excitement he has shown to be part of the new Manchester United.
"I know our fans have admired Juan for some time now - he has always played well against us - and I know they will be delighted to see him in the red of United, starting on Tuesday."
Mourinho praised Mata's contribution at Stamford Bridge, having helped Chelsea to win the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League.
"I and everyone at Chelsea have massive respect for Juan and his big talent, and when he told us of his wish to move on because he wanted to play more, we did not want to deny him this opportunity," said the Portuguese.
'We want him to be successful in his career and as well as that, this transfer makes huge financial sense to us at Chelsea.
'We are pleased Juan will stay in England - even with a rival club. He is happy in this country and it is good the Premier League retains such a talented player.
"Juan moves with our full blessing and I can speak on behalf of everyone at the club in thanking him for his fantastic service, and wishing him well for his future."

Lagos State University Shuts Down Indefinitely

The management of  Lagos State University (LASU) has closed down the state-owned university indefinitely following what it termed ‘violent protest by the students”.

This decision was contained in a bulletin, dated 23rd January, 2013, titled LASU management Closes University indefinitely.

The statement reads:

“In the wake of the violent protest by some affected students of Lagos State University
(LASU) over the closure of the university portal for registration of courses for rain semester 2012/2013 examination, the university management has decided to shut down the university indefinitely. Also, examinations have been put off till further notice.

With this decision, students are expected to vacate the university premises until further notice”.

Sandro Rosell resigns as president of Barcelona

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has tendered his resignation and hit out at "personal attacks" against him and his family following the opening of an investigation into Neymar's transfer to Camp Nou.

Rosell and Barca are currently under the scrutiny of the Spanish High Court over an alleged misappropriation of funds following the transfer of Neymar from Santos last summer.
The Liga champions bought the Brazil star for a fee of €57.1 million in May of last year, but only €17.1m of that went to Peixe, with third-party owners originally believed to have claimed the rest.

However, supermarket chain DIS say they never received their share and the Catalans have since admitted paying the €40m to the company co-owned by Neymar and his father, N&N.

Blaugrana vice-presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Javier Faus met with Rosell at his home on Thursday morning and joined the Barca president at a meeting this evening, along with deputy president Joanjo Castillo, general director Antoni Rossich and communications director Albert Montagut.

But the reunion will be merely to discuss plans for the future, with the 49-year-old's mind made up following the release of a statement in which Rosell once again declares his innocence.

He said: "Me and my family for some time have suffered attacks that make me wonder if it's worth being president. "In recent days there have been unfair criticisms against me, coming from the national courts. I insist that everything that happened in the transfer of Neymar was correct.

"The club has always got to have an image that defends the club, there is confidentiality we have to expect, it's important.

"If we don't accept confidentiality it is damaging to the club. We don't want unfair publicity to affect the image of the club."

Rosell then reflected on his time at the club and said he was proud of the achievements of Barca during his reign.

"We've won the Champions League, two league titles, the other sports teams have also won a number of different trophies at home and abroad to show our power as a worldwide entity. "If you think back to Ronaldinho's goal in Paris, [Lionel] Messi's goals, what happened in Rome, in London.

"We've reduced the debt and regained assets.

"We have the pride of knowing some of the best players in the world play for Barca."

The president, whose current mandate runs until 2016, took charge at Camp Nou in 2010. He will be replaced by Bartomeu until the next elections.

falBreaking News ; Falcao to miss World Cup

Monaco striker Radamel Falcao will miss the World Cup after it was confirmed on Thursday that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

The Colombian will be sidelined for at least six months of action with the knee injury, which occured during Wednesday's Coupe de France encounter against Chasselay, Porto doctor Jose Carlos Noronha said.

The striker had flown to Portugal in the aftermath of the fixture at Stade Gerland, having picked up the injury following a heavy tackle from one of the amateur side’s defenders shortly before half-time.

After being carried off on a stretcher, concerns were expressed over the severity of the injury and the fears of the player, club and country were confirmed by Noronha, who described the injury as "a serious tear" and suggested the attacker could be absent for up to eight months.

Monaco released a statement saying: "Following the injury suffered on Wednesday, medical examinations were conducted on Radamel Falcao. It appears that the player has an injury of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

"Surgery is necessary in the coming days. Doctors will thereafter make every effort to allow Radamel Falcao to recover as quickly as possible."

Chasselay president Jocelyn Fontanel announced to 20 Minutes that he has received threats from Colombia over the injury, which was caused by defender Soner Ertek.

"There were two sentences of Spanish abuse, threats and insults," he revealed. "It demanded a lifetime suspension for Soner Ertek. We will not take these messages seriously."

Norona, meanwhile, is set to perform surgery on the damaged left knee of the 27-year-old, who signed a five-year deal with the principality side in the summer, having made a €60 million move from Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United drop out of top three richest clubs for first time

Manchester United have dropped out of the top three highest earning clubs in football's rich list for the first time, after being overtaken by European champions Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to lead the way in the 2013 Deloitte Football Money League, published on Thursday, while Manchester City move up to sixth, climbing above both Chelsea and Arsenal.


The Premier League continues to consolidate its position as the dominant financial force in world football, with six teams in the top 20 (Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool), compared to four from Germany and Italy, three from Spain and one from France.

At the top of the list remain Real Madrid with a revenue of £444.7m, a growth of just over 1% but still leaving them £31.1m ahead of rivals Barcelona whose revenue stayed largely the same at £413.6m.

Madrid spent heavily in the summer, splashing out a world record fee on Gareth Bale, and also saw matchday revenues fall.

However, increases in commercial and broadcast revenue as well as prestigious pre-season and mid-season friendlies, which bring in significant revenue, have helped them stay top for a record ninth consecutive year.

Despite dropping down the list Manchester United increased their revenue by 13% to £363.2m, thanks in part to their title-winning success. However, an unfavourable exchange rate and Bayern Munich’s historic treble saw the German side move ahead with a total revenue of £369.6m, up 17%.

Although this is the first time United have dropped out of the top three, a recent raft of commercial deals means the club are predicted to regain third spot next year despite their current on-pitch struggles.

"Whilst Manchester United drop one place in the Money League, a number of the club's recent commercial deals will boost revenue in 2013-14, so this fall to fourth place may only be temporary," says Austin Houlihan, senior manager in the sports business group at Deloitte.

"Beyond 2013-14, consistent qualification for the Champions League is key in United challenging to regain top spot in the Money League, a position it last held in 2003-04."

Manchester City are the next English team on the list, in sixth, moving up one place with a revenue of £271m despite a trophyless season.

This rise moves them above Chelsea in seventh, who saw a small decline in revenues to £260m, and Arsenal in eighth who recorded a small (4%) increase to £243.6m.

City's revenue increase is largely down to its commercial activities, particularly their agreement with Etihad Airways, while the club also saw a rise in matchday revenue of 12% despite still offering the cheapest season ticket in the Premier League.
Liverpool, meanwhile, drop out of the top 10 for the first time but remain the highest placed club without Champions League football. The Reds grew revenue by £17.5m (9%) to £206.2m and are tipped to return to the top 10 next season thanks largely to new Premier League broadcast deals.

Tottenham are in 14th place on the list, showing a small (2%) increase in revenue of £3.2m to £147.4m. As well as the sale of Bale, the new Premier League deals will also help Spurs increase their revenues next season with the club expected to challenge for a place in the top 10 once their proposed new stadium is in place.

Elsewhere, the other big movers on the list are French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who have surged into the top five for the first time with record turnover of almost £341.8m, up a massive 81%.

The David Beckham effect was cited as one reason for the French side's success whilst lucrative long-term commercial agreements the club have in place could see them maintain their lofty position.


"PSG are the fastest climber in this year's Money League, claiming the highest ever position for a French club," said Houlihan.

"We expect to see them become a mainstay in the top five in years to come, backed by their ambitious Qatari owners and strong commercial support.

"The high-profile signing of David Beckham in the second half of the 2012-13 season only served to enhance the club's worldwide profile."

Elsewhere Galatasaray and Fenerbahce enter the top 20 for the first time while Corinthians make it into the top 30 showing that emerging markets are starting to make an impact.

Champions League winners Bayern Munich and Liga champions Barcelona dominate the Fifpro XI for 2013, with Ballon d'Or nominees Franck Ribery and Lionel Messi making the cut.

Manuel Neuer is the first of the Bavarians' treble winners to be named, taking the place in goal previously dominated by Iker Casillas.

Roten skipper Philipp Lahm and Barca stalwart Dani Alves are the two full-backs, with Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively at the heart of defence.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the Fifa Ballon d'Or, beating off competition from Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery to secure the award for a second time.

Although the 28-year-old Portuguese failed to claim a major trophy at club level, he has been crowned the world's outstanding footballer over the course of the last 12 months.

Messi had won each of the last four editions of the award, including all three since it was endorsed by Fifa, while Ribery played a pivotal part in a historic treble-winning season for the Bavarians, but Ronaldo's tally of 69 goals in 59 games for club and country in 2013 proved decisive.

Ronaldo previously won the award in 2008 as a Manchester United player, but has since finished runner-up to Messi on three occasions (in 2009, 2011 and 2012).

But as Messi missed much of 2013 through injury, Ronaldo took advantage as he helped Real reach the final of the Copa del Rey and the last four of the Champions League before signing a new deal with the capital club and enjoying his best-ever season start under new coach Carlo Ancelotti in the latter months of the year, as well as single-handedly firing Portugal to the World Cup with all four goals in his side's play-off victory against Portugal over two legs in November.

And the 28-year-old, who opened a museum in December in his native Madeira to display his personal collection of trophies, now has another Ballon d'Or to exhibit alongside his 2008 award.

Breaking News: Ibrahimovic wins Puskas Award The Sweden international's strike

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has won the Puskas Award for his memorable overhead kick for Sweden against England in an international friendly.

The Paris Saint-Germain star scored every goal to defeat the Three Lions 4-2 in the first match at the Friends Arena in Solna back in November 2012.

The last was a spectacular bicycle kick to seal the victory and was enough to see off competition from Nemanja Matic's goal for Benfica against Porto in the Primeira Liga last term and Neymar's strike for Brazil against Japan.

The Puskas Award was first awarded back in 2009 for Cristiano Ronaldo's goal against Porto and has since been given to the likes of Hamit Altintop, Neymar and Miroslav Stoch.

Ibrahimovic, 31, was previously nominated for the 2011 edition of the prize for his strike for AC Milan against Lecce in Serie A but lost out to Barcelona's young Brazilian attacker, then playing for Santos.

The former Inter and Juventus striker was also named as in the FIFPro World Xi, forming an all-star front three with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

BREAKING NEWS: AC Milan fires manager Massimiliano Allegri

AC Milan have confirmed the sacking of head coach Massimiliano Allegri with immediate effect in the wake of the Rossoneri's 4-3 loss against Sassuolo on Sunday.

Allegri recently announced that he would leave Milan at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, but the club decided on Monday to relieve him right away following their ongoing struggles this term.

Milan currently sit 11th in Serie A with 22 points from 19 games, having won just five games in the first half of the season, and the San Siro side have consequently opted to dismiss Allegri.

The 46-year-old took charge of Milan in the summer of 2010 and immediately guided the Rossoneri to the Serie A title in his first season at the helm.

However, Milan had to settle for second place the following campaign, while they came in only third last term after selling star players Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the season.

Milan's slide has continued in 2013-14 as they find themselves fighting against relegation rather than challenging for the Champions League spots, eventually leading to Allegri's exit.

The Livorno-born coach previously was in charge of Aglianese, SPAL, Grosseto, Lecco, Sassuolo and Cagliari.

Mr Orezi, my reason for writing this piece is to congratulate you on your success of 2013. You made a massive impact in the music industry giving us hits after hits. Lemme make a quick confession to you; Do you know that your songs occupy 20% of my playlist on my phone? I'm not exaggerating on this because I usually don't do such. Your songs like What is the need, Rihanna, You Garrit, Zarokome, Booty Bounce, Maserati rocked my playlist all through 2013 and still does. Orezi, I really do love your genre of music (reggae mixed with afro hip-hop), it is just my perfect taste.

Your inclusion to the HKN gang was one of the highlights of 2013 and your inability to pickup the headies award for the best reggae dancehall song was also one of the surprises of last year. But do you know what? I wanna use this medium to tell you that every disappointment is a blessing. I bet you are calling the shots in 2014 and sweeping all awards this year has to offer because you are a talented artiste. Mehn...dude, I really must say your combination with kiddominant is the best in naija as we speak. Have got an opportunity to work with kiddo and so I know what I'm saying. O boy! that dude is pure talent. You guyz are just perfect for your each other #NotThatAngleThough





But please Orezi, I've come to the appeal part of my letter. I'd like to see an album from you drop early this year. With an album, I'm sure you are going to win the hearts of so many people and cement your place as a A-list artiste in naija. Please do this for me, because I'm really anticipating your album.
Back at Isoko, Delta state were I'm serving, people say good things about you and I only just recently got to find out that you hail from there. That's a good thing, I'm serving in your land #Cool.

My final message to you is for you to keep doing what you know how to do best. 2014 is your year!

My husband & family are in support of my nude pictures,I am still born-again-Maheeda

For those who aren't tired of Maheeda,read excerpts from this new interview in which she says her husband is aware of her nudes ,she is still born-again and friends with Donjazzy, Olamide and Phyno

It is deliberate. I know what I am doing. The pictures are not targeted at anything. It is all about attention and there is no mistake about it. This business of music is called showbusiness and I am convinced I am on the right track. I owe no apologies. I just realised this way will be a faster hit than any other way. The pictures are working for me.As you can see, there’s so much attention on me. All of a sudden, people want to listen to my old singles and are looking forward to my debut album.In this life, everybody gets criticised whether you do good or bad. I have read and heard so much about me that I am now used to it. Thanks to them, they have helped me develop a thick skin.



 

  Relationship

I am married and my husband is Dutch. What I am doing is not alien to him or his family and he understands. I met him at a bar when he just came to Nigeria. We are happily married. Even before we got married, he understood my kind of person. He was aware of my vision. He has always been supportive. He just laughs whenever he comes across any of my pictures. It’s in Africa that we attach much importance to such things and consider it sacrilegious.

I am 31 and I had my daughter when I was 17. I do not think this is going to affect her in any way. If my mother did something like this; there is no way it would have affected me. My daughter is not even aware these nude pictures exist even though she has seen pictures of me in bikini. She is not even allowed access to the social media. Even if she gets to view them eventually, it’s not going to mean anything to her because she has the European mentality. When my daughter is 18, then she can decide what she wants. Currently, she is under my care and I won’t let her do what I am doing.

Friendship

I have quite a few of them. Don Jazzy is my friend, Olamide and Phyno just to mention but a few. Gospel artistes? No, but I became a born-again Christian and decided that I wanted to continue with secular music. Whether people accept it or not, I am a born-again Christian and that is why I describe my music as honest music. I am not perfect but I’m just living my life in the best possible way.

Dear Skales Let me start by wishing you a happy and prosperous new year… Mr Raoul, I would like to admit to the FACT that you are a very talented and Hardworking artist like it’s not really easy switching between singing and Rapping at the same time(should be the main reason BankyW signed you some years ago). There are some things I’ve noticed about your music Career since you Started with EME, some years ago when you released your first pre-EME Single(Heading for a Grammy) I just knew that you were headed to the TOP cause I felt the Heat(HIT) from the song. At that time People started looking forward to you like you are the next thing to storm the Nigerian music scene. BankyW. Signed You and Wiz up, I can remember Him bringing the two of you up on stage at a show announcing the you both as His Retirement plan, but Let me be sincere since then it has been all about Wiz.






 I am not sure maybe it’s the Destiny/Star Factor OR the exposure wizkid got when He was still upcoming recording with the likes of OJB, soundsultan e.t.c then that made him a STRONGER FORCE than you in the music scene. I understand that you were still in school which is much needed(thank God you graduated successfully last year) maybe that was what held your music career back a little bit..

When you released your First single(Mukulu) with EME I was like Ok so this guy can sing too an album from him would not be bad. You also gained little Popularity and so on. 2013 was not too bad for your career, your impact was really good on the EME compilation album (this is me forgetting the fame and musical influence wizkid and BankyW got on the album).






Your verses on Baddest Boy, Sunmomi, Get down tonight and so on was on point. You released two singles in 2013 Take Care Of me and Denge Pose(of which denge pose was really slept on) which were AMAZING, the first time I heard Take care of me was on BEAT FM and I was like is this Skales? I mean An average Nigerian artist/musician can’t write a song like that. Now To the main matter, Mister Skales I would like you to Pull a wizkid on Your LABEL BOSSES.

2014 Is YOUR TAKEOVER YEAR, Release an album in the first quarter of this year (don’t care if Wiz’s second album is not yet out) Go for it in the first quarter of this Year or you lose your CHANCE of taking over/Blowing full time. At least the singles Wizkid released last year are enough (No hating to wiz).. I am tired of seeing tweets about you not blowing yet. Before I stop, Mr. Skales Please change Your stylist(if you have one) and your mode of dressing, you can At least Contact Ice-Prince for His Stylist.
