LAMIDO; LACK OF TRUST CAUSE ASUU STRIKE

Appeal has been made to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa to end the ongoing strike in the interest of the students.

The governor made the appeal when he received a delegation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Dutse.
He said it was unfortunate that the industrial action has lingered on for three months.
The governor blamed the protracted strike on lack of trust between the Federal Government and ASUU.
“It is really unfortunate that the strike has lasted up until this time. There is no trust between the two bodies and when there is no trust it will be difficult to have a common ground.
“As a parent, I am so worried seeing our children that supposed to be in school at home.
“I am appealing to ASUU to go back to the classroom while the negotiation with the government continues,” he said.
Lamido, however, pleaded with the Federal Government to continue to dialogue with the union, even after the strike had been called off.
He said this would enable the two parties to sort out the gray areas in the dispute, adding that ASUU and the Federal Government should approach the dialogue with sincerity.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr Ahmed Jibril, appealed to Lamido to intervene to end the lingering industrial action.

One of the ways we do this is the seamless synergy between the brand and dance.  Apart from earning the title of Nigeria’s number one dance family, the winning family becomes partners of the brand and we will continue with them for as long as we can”.

6 Ways To Tell If Your Boyfriend Or Girlfriend Is Lying To You

1) FIND THE BASELINE

Before you can tell if someone’s lying, you need to know how they usually behave. Once you understand their basic pattern of behavior—quirks and mannerisms included—you can start digging up the lies. People usually deviate from their baseline behavior when they say something fishy.

2) FACE IT

Asymmetries like a crooked smile or a half-mast eye are telltale signs of a lie. A wandering eye is another signal, since it’s hard to lie while looking someone in the eye.

3) LOOK FOR A SLEIGHT OF HAND

Fibs make you fidgety. Liars will scratch their noses, rub their necks, and pick imaginary lint from their shirts. A fib may send extra adrenaline to the capillaries in your face—especially your nose—which sparks an urge to itch.

4) TIME THE BLINK OF AN EYE

The average person blinks every five seconds. But when they lie, they’ll blink more—every two or three seconds. Liars also take longer to respond to questions, probably because they have to constantly cook up creative answers and need to recall previous mistruths.

5) LET THEM TALK

Lies make us chatty. A liar may talk a lot to win you over, but most of those extra sentences are fluff. Phrases like “The truth is” or “To be honest” can mean that if they aren’t lying to you now, they were earlier.

6) DIG DEEPER

If you think someone’s pulling your leg, ask them to repeat their story. Unless they’ve rehearsed, the tale won’t be the same the second time around. A liar may also evade your questions, which means they’ve definitely got something to hide.

Miss Philippines Wins Miss world

Miss Philippines was on Saturday crowned Miss World 2013 in a glittering finale on the Indonesian resort island of Bali amid tight security following weeks of Muslim protests.

Megan Young beat five other finalists, including France and Brazil, to win the coveted title in a contest broadcast to more than 180 countries worldwide.

She thanked the judges for choosing her and promised to "be the best Miss World ever".

The 23-year-old pledged to "just be myself in everything I do, to share what I know and to educate people".

The decision to hold the pageant in the world's most populous Muslim-majority country had sparked hardline anger.
Heavily armed police and water cannon were guarding the venue in Nusa Dua, southern Bali.

Thousands of hardliners had taken to the streets around the country to protest against the pageant in recent weeks, and radical group the Islamic Defenders' Front had pledged to stage protests on Saturday against the pageant.

But in the end no demonstrations materialised, and the group limited itself to holding a mass prayer session in a mosque just outside the capital Jakarta to express their opposition.

Banky W:Nigerian Ent. industry is more fame than fortune

In an interview with Nigerian Tribune yesterday, Banky W opened up about his relationship status. When asked if he was in a relationship, Banky replied 'Not at the moment.' Guess his relationship with Ghanaian beauty Andrea Giaccaglia has packed up...or maybe he just wants to get the blogs off his back. Lol. Anyway Mr Capable also reacted to the Forbes/Channel O list of the Top 10 Most Bankable African artists 2013where he was placed at No.10, Banky says the Nigerian entertainment industry is more fame than money. When asked how he felt about the list, Banky replied
I don’t believe very much in such things. Let’s be honest, the real wealthy people are the businessmen like Dangote and the politicians (some of whom got there by looting Nigeria). They’re the ones with real money. This entertainment business is too much hype. It is more fame than fortune. So I’m not thrilled by it and I don’t think any of us should buy into it too much. I’d rather be wealthy and quiet than famous and broke.Q

Burna Boy Shows Of His Tatoo Off The Tatoo of Fela On His Arm.

Kunle Afolayan; I May Not Live Long

Actor cum movie producer Kunle Afolayan instilled fear in the hearts of his fans with his recent message on his Facebook page.
The workaholic filmmaker said he is afraid he may no live long due to his obsession with film making.
Just coming off the set of his soon-to-be-released epic movie, ‘October 1’, the workaholic filmmaker took to Facebook to post his thoughts.
Read what he wrote:
”My Obsession with filmmaking makes me think I may not live long. I forbid it though. I got back to Lagos yesternight very tired and sleepy after 42days of shoot, got home ate then went to bed. All I see through out my sleep are the shots I took and those that I felt I should have done differently. Woke up this morning and all I have in my head is the deadline of the Trailer release which is October 1 2013, in about 11 days and the completion of the whole project. Yes, am very passionate about film making but I think being too obsessed is not healthy”.
It was however gathered that the movie has already gulped a staggering sum of N100million and about N200million is still needed to see the movie to completion.

Bolt offers to train Bale to be more Faster

World-record holder in 100 meter and double Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt believes Gareth Bale is the fastest footballer in the world, but says he can make the Real Madrid winger even quicker.
Despite concerns over his fitness due to a lack of pre-season, the Wales star clocked an incredible 40kmh during Real Madrid’s draw with Villarreal in his debut. That is almost 25mph, just 2mph behind Bolt’s world-record speed.
And Bolt says he will teach Bale how to run even faster if the player and Real Madrid want him to.
“I think Gareth is probably the fastest player in the world at the moment – but I will help him with his sprinting if he wants,” Bolt said.
The world’s fastest man added that he trained with Bale’s new team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in a session too, and is clearly willing to do the same for the former Tottenham man.
Bolt said: “It is not just about how fast you can accelerate – but also when you have the football at your feet about balance while you are sprinting as well. I helped Ronaldo with his sprinting in a training session – and look what he has go on to achieve since then.
“I have a lot of respect for Real Madrid – and if they and Gareth want my help I am happy to fly in and take a private training session with Gareth. I hear that he has been clocking speeds close to me – but it is about technique as well.
“I know I could make him an even better player than he already is.”
Bolt, a devoted Manchester United fan, recently spent time with Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero before the weekend’s derby clash at the Etihad.

Orezi Not Officially Singed To Davido's HKN

Orezi not signed to Davido's HKN gang

Orezi has not signed a contract to work with Davido's record label HKN Music, but they had a verbal understanding earlier in the year.
Contrary to the news that budding singer Orezi has signed a deal with Davido's HKN Gang, NET investigations reveal that the Pop singer is yet to put pen to paper for any deal and that there might be a possibility he won't.
In May 2013, Davido revealed Orezi as the newly signed act to his HKN Gang record label. This was shortly after he and Orezi had hinted fans on social media Twitter on a possible signing.
Orezi tweeted; ''About to make a big career decision !! Change is the only constant thing in lyf .. Lord see me tru.''
Davido was quite excited to announce the signing too. ''I just signed my new artiste but you guys may know him...Orezi, welcome to the team homeboy'', he announced back in May.
But sources close to Orezi have confirmed to us that there were never any concrete talks on the signing which ultimately yielded into talks going in limbo.
NET has learnt that Orezi who quit his working relationship with former label Cullbeed Music is currently signed to Sprisal Records being backed by one of the sons of late Oil and Petroleum mogul at FATGBEMS Petroleum, Alhaji Fatai Gbemisola.
Just like Cullbeed Music boss Kolade 'Ronkay' Ajayi's heavy spending, Orezi will be receiving massive financial support once again. Orezi who completed his University education last year and participated in the National Youth Corp Service this year is currently in South Africa doing some club rounds and is expected to return to Nigeria any moment from now.
''Orezi was never signed to HKN, it was just verbal, an understanding. He is signed to Sprisal Records'', Orezi's current manager Ayodeji told NET over the phone.
Sprisal has already gone on to shoot a high budget video for Orezi's new single 'Rihanna' and are working on his long awaited debut album.
When contacted, a rep for HKN Gang confirmed that Orezi has not been signed to the label as previously announced.
''HKN Music believes that Orezi is an incredibly talented act. He is one of the acts who we would like to be signed formally onto the label in October.
Already Orezi and his management have been reviewing a contract with HKN Music's legal team. The terms haven't been concluded as we speak'', a rep for HKN told Nigerian Entertainment Today .
It was also revealed that two other artistes touted as HKN Gang recording artistes: pop artiste Danagog and Ghanaian act Deekay have also not been officially signed.

Federal Government imposed luxury tax on private jet owners

The Federal Government has imposed a luxury tax on private jet owners and operators in the country.
As a result, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has directed the owners and operators of private jets to pay the sum of $4,000 for every flight departure within the country.
According to a memo to all private jet operators and obtained by our correspondents, the NCAA ordered that Nigerian-registered private jets would henceforth pay the sum of $3,000 for every departure, while foreign registered private jets would pay $4,000 per departure.
The memo, dated August 28, 2013, and signed by the Director-General, NCAA, Captain Fola Akinkuotu, was titled, ‘Order charging certain fees on operations in general aviation.’
The memo, with reference number: NCAA/DG/OR/GA/VOL.11/2013/06, reads, “In compliance with the provisions of Section 30 (2) (q) & (s) of the Civil Aviation Act of 2006, the Authority hereby orders: All foreign registered aircraft engaging in non-scheduled operations shall forthwith pay $4,000 as fees under the provisions of the law set out above for every departure, except round trips without changes in passenger manifest, or return ferry. Such fees shall be paid in advance and prior to departure.

“All Nigerian-registered aircraft engaging in non-scheduled operations shall forthwith pay $3,000 as fees under the provisions of the law set out above for every departure, except round trips without changes in passenger manifest, or return ferry. Such fees shall be paid in advance and prior to any departure.
“This order shall be effective and in force immediately upon the date of issuance. Failure to comply shall result in denial of operations and or privileges.”
The memo is, however, generating controversy in the aviation sector, with some operators arguing that the levies are illegal and, as such, they will not pay.
But the NCAA has filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Lagos, challenging the reluctance of foreign and locally-registered aircraft operators to pay the levies.
In an originating summons dated September 23, 2013, the plaintiff (NCAA) is praying the court to determine whether by true construction of sections 30 (2) (q) and 30 (5) of the Civil Aviation Act, 2006, it is empowered to impose fees on all foreign and Nigerian registered aircraft engaged in non-scheduled operations.
The agency deposed that the payment of the said fees was to take effect from the date of the issuance of the order.
The affected airlines and aircraft operators under the aegis of the Airline Operators of Nigeria have described as draconian the policy, which they say amounts to double taxation and an illegality.
If the move by the NCAA becomes successful, it will affect pastors, business moguls and other private jets owners in the country, who will be expected to cough out about $1.4m annually as luxury tax.

How To Check If Your SIM Is Registered

These are steps to follow to check if your MTN,
Airtel, Etisalat or Glo SIM card has been
registered officially by your Network. It can
befrustrating registering with this road-side kiosks
claiming to register every SIM from every
network. I’ve been a victim before and I couldn’t
go back to them to confront them when I hadn’t
got a proof that it has not been registered. After
some digging anyway, I got the solution to check
if your SIM has been registered and recognised by
your network.
Some networks like Glo and Etisalat (in my case)
do sent message from time to time to remind me
to register my SIM card before I finally did. I don’t
know if they still do that though. If they still do, it
would be easy to tell after 24 hours of registering
your SIM and you still get messages from them.
You don’t have to wait for this anyway with the
tips I’m going to give you here!

•How to check if your MTN is Registered
Send REG as a message to 789. After sending the
text to 789 with your MTN SIM card, you will get a
reply confirming that you have been registered if
it was actually registered, otherwise, you get a
“not registered” message.
If your sim have been registered, you will
get a service message saying:
2348031231565 has been registered. Thank
you!
2348031231565 is your phone number!

•How to check if your Airtel SIM card has
been Registered
The only way to check if your Airtel SIM card has
been registered as at the time of writing this post
is by calling 111 on your phone or by sending an
email to customercare@ng.airtel.com
How to check if your Etisalat SIM has been
Registered

•For Etisalat, you can verify your SIM card
registration status by calling 200 or sending an
email to care@etisalat.com.ng
How to Check if your Glo SIM is Registered
Send REG to 3456 as a message. If your line has
been registered, you’ll receive a message that
looks like the one below:
Your SIMCARD +2348071111111 has been
registered. Thank You!
Enjoy!!!
Feel free to drop a comment if you need further
help.

Check Out The Nigeria Top 5 Richest Pastors

These days, millions of souls, desperate for financial
breakthroughs, miracles and healing, all rush to the
church for redemption.
God is good, especially if you’re a Nigerian pastor
with some business savvy.
And while the bible expressly states that salvation is
free, at times it comes with a cost: offerings, tithes,
gifts to spiritual leaders, and a directive to buy
literature and other products created by men of God.
Pastors are no longer solely interested in getting
people to Heaven; they’ve devised intelligent ways to
make good money while reaching out to souls.
Take Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for example. He is the
founder and lead pastor of the Christ Embassy, a
thriving congregation with branches in Nigeria, South
Africa, London, Canada and the United States.
His publishing company, Loveworld Publications,
publishes ‘Rhapsody of Realities,’ a monthly
devotional he co-authors with his wife.
It sells over 2 million copies every month at $1
apiece. He also owns television stations, newspapers,
magazines, a hotel, a fast-food chain, and more.
Many other Nigerian pastors are similarly building
multi-million dollar empires from their churches.
Today, pastors fly around in private jets, drive fancy
cars like Daimlers, Porsches and BMWs, don Rolexes
and Patek Phillipes, and own breathtaking mansions
all over the world.
After the blog post I wrote in May about Nigerian
pastors owning private jets, I was bombarded with
emails from readers requesting to know the richest
pastors in Nigeria.
So I set out to investigate the assets of some of
Nigeria’s most prominent pastors, and I came up
with conservative estimates of their fortunes.
I contacted representatives for all of the pastors and
all except Matthew Ashimolowo’s representative
confirmed ownership of the assets I list.
Representatives for Pastor Ashimolowo did not

BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO
Affiliation: Living Faith World Outreach Ministry, aka
Winners Chapel
Estimated net worth: $190 million
David Oyedepo is Nigeria’s wealthiest preacher. Ever
since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach
Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of
Africa’s largest congregations.
The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services
every Sunday, is Africa’s largest worship center, with
a seating capacity of 50,000.
Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London
and the United States.
He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving
publishing company that publishes all his books
(which are often centered on prosperity).
He founded and owns Covenant University, one of
Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, and Faith
Academy, an elite high school.

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME
Church: Believers’ Loveworld Ministries, a.k.a Christ
Embassy
Estimated net worth: $100 million – $120 million
Last year, the charismatic preacher was at the center
of a $35 million money laundering case in which he
was accused of siphoning funds from his church to
foreign banks.
Pastor Chris pleaded no wrongdoing and the case
was eventually dismissed.
His church, Christ Embassy, boasts more than
40,000 members, several of whom are successful
business executives and politicians.
Oyakhilome’s diversified interests include
newspapers, magazines, a local television station, a
record label, satellite TV, hotels and extensive real
estate.
His Loveworld TV Network is the first Christian
network to broadcast from Africa to the rest of the
world on a 24 hour basis.

PROPHET TEMITOPE JOSHUA
Estimated net worth: $60 million – $80 million
Nigeria’s most controversial clergyman is also one of
its richest and most philanthropic.
T.B Joshua heads the Synagogue Church of all
Nations (SCOAN), a congregation he founded in
1987, which accommodates over 15,000 worshippers
on Sundays.
The Pastor has remained controversial for several
years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of
difficult to cure diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer
and paralysis.
For miracle-craving worshippers, it’s the perfect
seduction. The church currently has branches in
Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and
Greece.
In the past three years, he has given over $20 million
to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation
programs for former Niger Delta militants.
He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television
network, and was close friends with late Ghanaian
President Atta Mills.

PASTOR MATTHEW ASHIMOLOWO
Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC)
Estimated net worth: $25 million – $50 million
In 1992, Foursquare Gospel Church, a Nigerian
church, sent Ashimolowo to open a satellite branch in
London. But Pastor Matthew had other ideas and
decided to set up his own church instead.
Today, his Kingsway International Christian Center is
reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the
United Kingdom.
In 2009, the church posted profits of close to $10
million and assets worth $40 million.
Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of $200,000, but
his real wealth comes from varied business interests
including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo
media, which churns out Christian literature and
documentaries.
Ashimolowo’s representatives did not respond to a
request confirming his net worth and ownership of all
these assets.

CHRIS OKOTIE
Church: Household of God Church
Net worth: $15 million -$25 million
Pastor Okotie made his first success as a popular pop
musician in the 80s. He found the light, embraced
the bible and set up the Household of God Church,
one of Nigeria’s most flamboyant congregations.
His 5,000 member church consists predominantly of
Nollywood celebrities, musicians, and society people.
He contested and lost Nigerian presidential elections
for the third time this year under the Fresh Party, a
political party he founded and funds.
An automobile lover, he owns a Mercedes S600,
Hummer and Porsche among several others.

ASUU dragged to National Industrial Court by Women’s Group

ASUU dragged to National Industrial Court by Women’s Group, several reliefs sought

THE strike action embarked upon by university lecturers has assumed another dimension as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been dragged before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) over the lingering strike action.

The suit, with the number NICW/Abj/242/2013 which also has ministers of labour and productivity, education, finance and justice, as well as secretary to the government of the federation as defendants, was instituted by the registered trustees of Golden Women of Integrity and Vision Association and Mrs. Florence Uche Ojieh.

In the suit, the claimants are asking the court to determine whether the strike action embarked upon by ASUU is not illegal and contrary to law and whether members of the union are not bound by the policy of ‘no work no pay’ and therefore not entitled to their salary during the period of the strike.

They also asked the court to determine whether members of ASUU are entitled to continue to retain their employment, having abandoned or deemed to have abandoned their work in the universities; whether or not the union complied with the mandatory provisions of Section 4 and 5 of the Trade Dispute Act CAP T8 LFN 2004 before embarking on the strike; whether the union has complied with the provision of Section 8 of the Trade Disputes Act CAP T8 LFN 2004; whether or not the minister of education is not entitled to determine the employment of the union, same having abandoned or deemed to have abandoned their work in their universities and whether or not the doctrine of collective bargain or the purported 2009 agreement can be the basis for the strike action by ASUU same not having been incorporated in their contract of employment between it and the federal government.

The reliefs sought by the claimants include a declaration that the strike action embarked upon by ASUU since July 2, 2013 is illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.
The claimants also sought a declaration of court that the strike action is unlawful and unwarranted in the face of the payment to the union by federal government of over N50 billion to meet ASUU’s demands from the government.

FG to spend N971bn in 2013 on Fuel subsidy

The Federal Government has said it will spend a total of N971bn to subsidise petroleum product consumption this year.

The amount is, however, N21bn higher than what was expended on fuel subsidy last year.
The government announced this on Monday as it released fresh N46.76bn for the payment of subsidy claims to 30 oil marketers.
The amount brings the total payments made under the fuel subsidy regime in the 2013 fiscal period to N287.35bn.
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, confirmed the payment in a statement issued by her Special Adviser (Communications), Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu.
She said, “In 2011, there was a huge public outcry. As a result, this administration has worked hard to clean up the process of subsidy payments. In response, the ministry set up the Aig-Imoukhuede committee, which investigated the subsidy payments. The committee was later elevated to a presidential committee by Mr. President.
“We also hired new auditors and we put in place different checks and balances. As a result, last year, we brought the subsidy payment down to about N950bn, and we expect that this year, we will pay about N971bn.

“I believe this is a huge achievement for which the Jonathan administration deserves some credit, something that should make Nigerians proud of their government.”
According to the statement, 11 oil marketers were paid N17.29bn subsidy for petrol imported into the country in April, while the remaining 19 were paid N29.46bn for May imports.
Okonjo-Iweala said, “In furtherance of President Goodluck Jonathan administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of fuel subsidy payments, the Federal Ministry of Finance has released the sum of N46.764bn as the latest payment to oil marketers, whose claims have successfully gone through the verification process.
“This means that, so far in 2013, a total of N287.351bn has been paid in verified claims to verified marketers.”
She said the prudent management of the subsidy regime had enabled the Federal Government to reduced public spending on petroleum product subsidy from N2.2tn in 2011 to N971bn last year.
This, she added, represented a reduction of about N1.2tn or 56 per cent.
The statement also quoted Okonjo-Iweala to have said that the Federal Government would continue to block loopholes in the fuel subsidy regime, adding that only marketers with genuine claims would be paid.
Some of the marketers that got their subsidy claims are AITEO Energy Resources Limited, Conoil Plc, DEE Jones Petroleum and Gas Limited, Forte Oil Plc, Gulf Treasures Limited, Integrated Oil and Gas Limited, Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc and NIPCO Plc.

Lagosians spend N36bn on Social Events annually —Fashola

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, said this weekend that more than N36 billion was spent annually by Lagos residents in organizing different social events.

This came as the governor said the solution to the unemployment crisis in the country did not require any foreign idea, saying “the answer is a Made in Nigeria strategy.”

The governor spoke at the fourth edition of the Lagos Ignite Enterprise and Employability project, a joint youth empowerment programme between the government and the Afterschool Graduate Development Centre, AGDC.
The event attracted hundreds of youths, ex-Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Ali Baba among other dignitaries.

Fashola explained that the figure was collated after a careful study of social events especially party life in Lagos.

According to him, “this was the study of night life carried out by the government in five local governments including Agege, Mushin, Ifako-Ijaiye and Ikeja and another local government. It showed that more than N36 billion was spent on 1555 parties held within the period.

“We did a study between October and November last year, we took just five local governments in Lagos; Agege, Mushin, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja and another one.

“We studied from Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, three days every week for four weeks which was 12 nights.

“In 12 nights, 1555 parties were held in these local governments. In terms of drinks, food and all other engagements during such parties, about N1.2 billion was spent and when we dis-aggregated them we saw how much went to DJ, MC, food and drinks, the total picture in the state now and I don’t want to give you a wrong number but it’s something in the region of about N3 billion monthly on that side of our life and people are playing and impacting on that side of our economy.

The governor noted that clothing materials worn during such parties popularly called “Aso-ebi” gulped at least N1.2 billion monthly, saying the market is huge with much yet to be tapped from it.”

Oyo State Governor sacked commissioners, assistants, and advisers.

Abiola Ajimobi, the Governor of Oyo State, has sacked all his commissioners, assistants, and advisers.

According to the sources of Premium Times, the Governor announced the dissolution of his cabinet in the afternoon of September 23, 2013, Monday.

The Governor thanked the commissioners and Special Advisers who made up the executive council for their contributions so far and asked them to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their various ministries.

ASUU blame NUC For Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has blamed the rot in the Nigerian education on the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, Julius Okojie, saying his failure to insist on quality is affected the system.

The lecturers also vowed to carry on with the strike action unless the federal government consents to the 2009 agreement it had with the union.

In a statement signed by its University of Ibadan branch chairman, Olusegun Ajiboye, ASUU renewed its call for the scraping or a total overhaul of the regulatory institution if the nation wishes to get it right in university education management.

While calling on the National Assembly to look in to the activities of the NUC, Mr. Ajiboye said the recent NEEDS assessment report on universities reflects how much the commission has failed in its duties as a regulator.

According to him, the report undertaken by genuine academics contradicts NUC’s accreditation exercises which gave ‘controversial’ clean bill of health to most universities through “magomago accreditation.”

The union contended that only in a society like ours would Mr. Okojie still remain in office after being heavily indicted in the report.

Mr. Okojie had, last week, absorbed his commission of any wrongdoing in the rot plaguing public universities in the country, particularly as regards undeserved accreditation, blaming members of the ASUU instead.

Mr. Ajiboye, who described the statement credited to the NUC boss as ‘careless’, accused Mr. Okojie of using his cronies who can do his biddings to embark on accreditation.

He said the success of the 2011 elections was based on the patriotic zeal and contributions of genuine and patriotic ASUU members nationwide saying that was why the election was free of hanky-panky recorded in past elections.

Brazilian Businessman Buries His £310,000 Bentley So He Can Use It In The Afterlife

62years old wealthy entrepreneur ‘Count Scarpa’ will be burying his greatest treasure – his new £310,000 Bentley convertible today so as to avoid any chance of not balling in his afterlife.
In a bizarre announcement on his Facebook page Scarpa declared that he plans to do as the Pharaohs of Egypt did and take his riches with him when he dies by burying them.
So today, he will entomb his brand new Bentley Continental worth over £310,000 to make sure he has a comfortable journey into the ‘other side’.
The funeral ceremony, he promises, will be at 11am in Sao Paulo.
The self-made businessman, who has a degree in economics and is a black belt instructor and owner of the Institute Maruyama Aikido, a Japanese martial arts academy, explains that his decision to start storing up his treasures for the life beyond came after watching a programme on Ancient Egypt on Sunday.
‘I was watching a documentary about the pharaohs of Egypt, very interesting. They buried their entire fortune to have a comfortable life “the other side”!’
So, he wants to copy them.
Scarpa has been married twice – his first wife died, then he married a second wife whom he divorced.
Scarpa has no children.
